Last week on May 11th was our very first family folk dance night titled "Jammin' in our Jammies"! I'm tellin' you...if you weren't there, you missed out on a fabulous night of dancing and community building. We probably had between 150-200 attendees and ages ranged from toddler to grandparent all dancing together. Music has an incredible power to bring a community together and this night was certainly not an exception. Wildcats rocked their rad pajamas and some parents even got in on the pajama action. I figured it was only appropriate to get a special pair for such a special event and sported a rather spectacular purple narwhal onesie! (Word to the wise: polar fleece isn't meant for May!)
Last week all students moved class outside to the blacktop and got our groove on with dances from all over the world. We traveled to Europe and learned "Seven Jumps" from Denmark, "Rakes of Mallow" from Ireland, "Chimes of Dunkirk" from France, and "Sasha" from Russia. Then we popped down to South America for "Carnavalito" from Bolivia. We then made our way back home to North America for "Sashay the Donut" from the USA and "Les Saluts" from Canada. This was a super fun way to support our schoolwide initiative of being more culturally inclusive and our Wildcat GEO Challenge that's gone on this year. I love any chance to mix multiple subjects in a single lesson and this make my geography nerd little heart simply beam. :)
Parents: I saw several of you with cameras capturing memories of the action. If you caught any adorable moments or video, I would really appreciate having copies. I got too caught up in the fun to grab pictures of my own.
