We're building a WHAT?!

This year, Wilson is fortunate enough to welcome back a guest program called Orgelkids that lets kids explore the "king of the instruments" - the pipe organ! Students worked in construction teams this week to assemble 5 different sections of the organ: pipes, keyboard, bellows, windchest, and frame.Check out the videos below to hear how each section functions and how they assembled it.

Next week, students will go on a field trip to see two local pipe organs in action at First United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church. Organist Craig Hansen will perform Bach's iconic "Toccata and Fugue in D minor", students will get to go inside the winding rooms to see the pipes, and will even have an opportunity to play these wonderful instruments. Students are not required to play the organ during the trip but if they would like to learn a few simple melodies, click below to download a piano by numbers packet that will walk them through how to play Hot Cross Buns, Au Claire de la Lune, and Mary Had a Little Lamb.
