The Day the Crayons Quit

On February 15th, 3rd grade presented their musical production of "The Day the Crayons Quit". Using Drew Daywalt's popular book, we developed an Orff Schulwerk style performance with instruments and student created choreography. Memorizing 3 different songs complete with 3-5 different instrumental layers is no easy task and the students worked incredibly hard to learn it! Our Wildcats worked in groups to choreograph their colors using ribbon streamers and movement cards. They used lyrics and the personalities of the different characters as inspiration to their movement. Many of the students voluntarily gave up some of their morning recess time to have extra time to practice their parts. I'm so touched by their dedication and it was pure joy to watch them coach each other, encourage, and lead their own mini-rehearsals.

This performance wouldn't have happened without the help of some incredible people and I'd like to take a moment to thank them. Julie O'Briant - your artistry is astounding and you executed my vision for props better than I could have ever described. Rose Booble - thank you for lending your wordsmith talents to our lyrics. Christina Wilson & Shana McCauley - thank you for creating our costumes and helping our narrators stand out. OSU Athletics Department - your generosity in donating to our Donors Choose project made it possible for us to have these ribbon streamers and add vibrancy to our artistry.
